“This Time” by Midnight Faces

midnightfaces-thefireisgone_3Midnight Faces is comprised of vocalist Philip Stancil and composer Matthew Doty (of Saxon Shore which used to include Josh Tillman aka Father John Misty). The duo recorded their forthcoming sophomore release, The Fire Is Gone (Broken Factory), at Doty’s apartment in Venice Beach and decided to continue their throwback post-punk vibes. But while subtle synths and digital beats might drive the collective mood, Stancil’s voice will soar the songs into an elevated level of pop –such as on “This Time”:

Midnight Faces will perform at The Spare Room tomorrow (Thursday, May 1st) along with Say Say.

“Bomb” by Teenage Exorcists

Teenage Exorcists promo5Teenage Exorcists is ragtag group of Riverside dudes who’ve known each other most of their lives. Together they make sun bleached garage rawk overwhelmed with power pop fuzz –like The Strokes if they grew up in the desert. And unlike most of their peers, they haven’t succumbed to the trendy psych-surf vibe. Here’s the opening track off their self-titled debut EP:

“Home” by Deluka

IMG_0907 RETOUCH2Deluka came to Silver Lake by way of Brooklyn by way of Birmingham and the British act has been busy performing across the city ever since. Fronted by vocalist Ellie Innocenti, the band blasts buoyant synth-pop over her powerful pipes. Their forthcoming follow-up EP, BONDS, was recorded here in L.A. by producer Tim Pagnotta (Neon Trees) and the band blames its sanguine spirit on their new home’s sunny aura. Here’s their soaring anthem “Home”:

And here’s a studio video of the song:

Deluka will perform tonight at Loaded along with Pollimer and The Knitts.

“Hold” by Miakoda

Miakoda Press Photo #1Valentina Mitzkat and Brad Reaume began Miakoda as a Noho studio project based on their mutual admiration of “movie scores and apocalyptic themes.” When the world didn’t end in 2012, the coed duo decided to finally expose their cinematically influenced grandeur pop. The result is an evocative wave of orchestrated sonics carried by Mitzkat’s soaring vox such as on “Hold” off their recently released debut EP Tie A Knot:

Miakoda will perform this Friday, May 2nd at Lyric Hyperion Theater for their EP release party and music video premiere for “Going Home” along with BEGINNERS and Broken Anchor. Tickets are available here.

“Lois Lane” by Sabrina Antoinette (Premiere)

Sabrina_SH_02-71V1Sabrina Antoinette may have been raised in Texas, but now she’s fully embraced the frenzy lifestyle of Hollywood. With fierce vocals of passion and an edgy presence, she is destined for party popster status. Her debut EP, Kiss Kiss x Bang Bang, is due very soon via CBE (making her apt labelmates with U.G.L.Y.) and opens with the epic indie pop ballad “Lois Lane” that demands to be blasted as Antoinette cuts through the synths and digi-beats with a smooth soft croon:

“You can be my Superman and I’m your Lois Lane tonight…”

“Others” by FLORALS

rooftop 2FLORALS formed after three musician friends (a vocalist, a guitarist, and a producer) decided they would collaborate without any expectations. The result is an uncanny delivery of pop tranquility. Their first leaked single, “Others,” floats on experimental effects, downtempo beats, ambient tones, and a breathy lush voice.

The Miracle Mile-based trio will release their debut EP, Later Age, tomorrow (Tuesday, April 29th) and perform at Los Globos along with THIEVES and Moon Honey.

“Visions Of My Mind” by Levitation Room

Levitation Photo#2Levitation Room began after longtime friends Julian Porte and Gabriel Fernandez finally recruited a reliable rhythm section: drummer John Martin and bassist Jon Martin (seriously). Now the band lives together in a lockout studio in the back of an East Los Angeles music store (which they also manage). And staying true to garage rawk DIY, they’ve self-recorded most of their music. Here’s their latest leaked track “Visions Of My Mind” which continues the band’s hazy psychedelic vibes and was produced by local icon Joel Jerome:

And here’s a live video of the song performed at KUCI:

Levitation Room will perform tonight at The Echo along with Mystic Braves, Jeffertitti’s Nile, and L’Aura Moire.

And at Fenix 54 on May 2nd with Wax Children and Portrait Monarchs.

And at Alex’s Bar for Long Beach Psych Night on May 8th with Los Craters and Take Pictures.
