“Leave It Alone” by White Arrows

tumblr_mqtif1N44w1r7ymvpo1_1280Canyon country bums White Arrows will return with their sophomore album, In Bardo, this fall via Votiv. For the first time, the band worked with a producer (Jimmy Messer) in a studio (The Tube) to record in one continuous session (versus the process of their debut Dry Land Is Not A Myth which was periodically created over almost two years):

Judging by the release’s first leaked track, “Leave It Alone,” the indie pop rockers haven’t forgotten their dance friendly electro hooks or psychedelic vibes, but have perhaps progressed with a deeper thematic mindset:

Whites Arrows will soon tour with The Neighborhood this summer.

“Twins” by Wartime Recitals (Premiere)

wartime recitals press photoWartime Recitals owes its origin to a craigslist post uniting Jonathan Krueger (vocals/guitar) and Hugo Gomez (keys) in East L.A., but now the band prefers to escape to Big Bear to write songs in rented cabins. As a sextet with just as many guest members, their sound naturally carries a grandiose level of orchestration that builds to epic waves of indie rock chamber pop –as if Arcade Fire was raised under the Cali sun instead of the Great White North. Their self-titled EP will be released near the end of June and was recorded at Kingsize Soundlabs and mixed by Dave Trumfio (WilcoTerraplane Sun). Here’s their latest single, “Twins,” which showcases the heartfelt harmonics of Krueger and violinist/vocalist Morgan Paros:

Wartime Recitals will perform on May 30th at El Cid along with Sanglorians, Raw Fabrics, and Nick Lampone & The Sweethearts.

“Walk On” by Jaden Michaels

Jaden Michaels Med ResOnce upon a time Jaden Michaels was just a little girl singing karaoke at a pizza parlor in Santa Clarita until she was discovered and recruited to perform in all-girl pop groups. She eventually quit to become a homeless teenage songwriter and the decision paid off as she worked her way up to pen for Carly Rae Jepsen and Lea Michele (among many others). But now it’s her turn to shine and the maturity progress is reflected in the lyrics of her new single “Walk On” (MP45 Records). The spunky track builds up to hit at an epic level similar to Lana Del Rey‘s “Summertime Sadness” and we can only hope for similar success for this young songstress.

“Believe” Music Video by Big Tree

big tree-29Big Tree returns with a music video for their latest EP’s opening track “Believe.” Mostly created with still shots taken around their hometown of Berkeley and from a road trip to L.A. for a gig, the video is lead singer Kaila McIntyre-Bader’s attempt “to capture the dreamlike state of being in a rock band and living in the Bay Area.” The concept and images suit the song’s whimsical folk pop well:

Big Tree will perform on May 30th at the Silverlake Lounge along with Emerson Star.

“Black Valentine” by Jarell Perry

jp1Jarell Perry has risen to the head of L.A.’s new class of alt-R&B by laying his smooth sexy croon over a soundscape of digi-beats, sensual synths, and experimental effects. The Orange native started out by recording tracks in his UCLA dorm room but didn’t meet his current producer/collaborator HSVN until after graduation. Together they recently released the progressive White EP which often glides on neo-soul vibes such as the track “Black Valentine”:

Jarell Perry will finish his May residency tonight (5-26) at Bootleg HiFi along with Gallant, Dead Times, and Alex Isley.
