“Chosen Ones” Lyric Video by Fire In The Hamptons

IMG_0582-24Silver Lake‘s Fire In The Hamptons is a supercharged tour de force. Led by the crazily charismatic falsetto-frontman Zack Arnett, the quintet is an erratic bunch who deliver “dance-centric 80’s beats, gritty synthesizers, and intricate vocal melodies.” Their new EP, Chosen Ones, was produced by Carlos De La Garza (Young The Giant, Neon Trees, Tegan & Sara) and follows their 2012 debut full-length F.I.T.H. with less soul-funk and more grandiose pop. Here’s its title track:

“Varsity” by L.A. Girlfriend

LAGF Press IIWhen Los Feliz local Sydney Banta pumps out synth-pop, she becomes your L.A. Girlfriend. Her recent EP, Varsity, is a follow-up to 2013’s Viva LP and continues its fun blend of shimmery tones over post-punk beats. But Banta best describes her vibe as “razor-sharp, yet charmingly sweet.” Here’s the title track:

000000880004Alyeska is a new act fronted by Alaska Reid –a young transplant from rural Montana who now calls Laurel Canyon home. Along with Nico Grossfield and Ben Spear (also of Heaps n Heaps), the trio spits out raw indie rock unafraid to chew on loud jams and heavy grooves. Here’s “So Long” off their self-titled debut EP which was recorded live to tape:

And its retro inspired music video:

Alyeska will perform at the Silverlake Lounge on December 16th.

“Thrills” (Acoustic) Music Video by El May (Premiere)

Lara poolCalifornia-by-Australia artist El May (aka Lara Meyerratken) recently released her second album, The Other Person is You, via Rose Quartz Records. More oft than not, the album boasts buoyant pop including the digi-beat laden “Thrills.” El May and director Lizzy Henry decided the lush lo-fi track deserved an acoustic version and an accompanying music video shot at multiple swimming pools throughout Los Angeles –including El May‘s favorite lap pool in Glassell Park— all in one day. The video features cameos from El May’s band with drummer Scott Heiner as the “sax” player and bassist Scott Leahy as the irate lifeguard:

El May will perform tonight (11-18) at El Cid.

“Red River” by Minnow (Premiere)

minnowpressflowersThe Valley-based rock act Minnow returns by releasing their debut full length Trembles & Temperance (Anchor Eighty Four Records) –a record they claim is themed on “hopeless romanticism, nostalgia of youth, and coping with death.” Recorded at The Atomic Garden in Palo Alto and produced by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Whirr, Joyce Manor), the album continues the band’s tranquil guitar intricacies into crescendoing bursts of experimental zest. This brand of indie rock has become endangered since the early aughts and it’s riveting to experience again. Here’s the build-up track “Red River”

Minnow‘s record release show will be on November 29th at Uncles Studios.
