Crushed Out (formerly known as Boom Chick) is the coed duo of Moselle Spiller (drums) and Hermosa Beach native Franklin Hoier (guitar). They recently released their third full-length, Teeth, via Cool Clear Water Records and aptly labeled it as “honky-tonk surf rock.” The album alternates between evoking beach bashes or blues boogies all with a vintage vibe due to being recorded on ’60s tube amps, tube reverb units, and tape echo machines. But the psychedelic track, “Summer Sunset,” was written for sitting around crackling bonfires as the stars come out:
The music video for “Summer Sunset” comes with a unique story. Last summer, four musicians left North Carolina on a road trip to the West Coast and halfway through their van crashed. When they finally arrived in Venice Beach, they shot this footage to capture the end of their long journey –grateful to still be alive.
Crushed Out will perform at The Satellite on November 14th.
