FRANKIE‘s latest leaked single, “New Obsession,” seals her fate for every pool party playlist this summer. The soon-to-be breakthrough hit is off her debut EP DREAMSTATE (dropping April 14 via South by Sea) and opens as a bubbly confession which crescendoes into an eruption of rad power pop led by a newfound confidence.
L.A.’s raddest popster FRANKIE returns with another single, “Problems Problems,” off her debut EP DREAMSTATE dropping April 14th via South by Sea. The song opens with close harmonies cooing underneath her ultralite vox before bombastic beats (courtesy of longtime songwriting/producer partner Petros) blast the ballad into a gung-ho anthem:
“Problems, problems, I know that everybody’s got ’em.”
Sophie and The Bom Boms returns with a music video for their rad pop single “Can’t Say Yes.” Shown through a hazy filter –perhaps as a throwback to retro TV– the video features frontwoman Sophie Stern swaggering her lyrics while multi-instrumentalist bandmate David Elevator keeps the beat (along with guest Bom Bom, Asaf Rodeh, on the left):
Sophie and The Bom Boms‘ debut EP, The Shmixtape, is out now via Columbia Records.
Sophie and The Bom Boms‘ next performance will be on September 27th at Three Clubs.
Sophie And The Bom Boms just leaked a brand new track, “Can’t Say Yes,” off their forthcoming debut EP, The Shmixtape, due September 22nd via Columbia. The hot single continues their signature spree sensation with rad pop percussion:
Sophie And The Bom Boms returns with a music video for their buoyant pop anthem “Pray.” Shot around Baldwin Hills, Downtown, and the Fairfax District, the apt video follows Sophie playing in the streets and taking public transpo while her lyrics burst out in bold fonts:
After a minor remix, Sophie and The Bom Boms returns by leaking another single, “Pray,” off their debut EP, The Shmixtape (Columbia), due on September 22nd.
With bombastic beats and gung-ho vocals the party spirit of this buoyant pop anthem is a necessitate reminder that summer is far from over yet:
FRANKIE is a young rad chick originally from Oakland but now kicks it around Larchmont Village after her college friend/collaborating producer, Petros, convinced her to move down south. Now reunited, they’re recording FRANKIE‘s debut EP which she claims was mostly conceived from bedroom daydreams –which might expound her blatant candy-bop edge. And like HOLYCHILD and Sophie & The Bom Boms before her, FRANKIE‘s first leaked single, “BLACKOUT,” encourages a shameless pursuit of joie de vivre via digi-beats, quirky effects, and a fabulous poptastic vibe:
And here’s the song’s accompanying music video which was shot around Eagle Rock and Ventura by the always reliable director Jancarlo Beck:
Oh HOLYCHILD, how you’ve made us so proud. Seeing you get signed to Glassnote and embark on a national tour was like watching you graduate and run off to college. But it was only a matter of time before everyone else discovered and devoured your infectious bonbon pop. But during all the frenzy, we feel like the funky final track off your Mindspeak EP didn’t receive the attention it deserves:
HOLYCHILD released a music video for their second single “Playboy Girl” off their unreleased EP Mind Speak and it reinforces the band’s assumed mission statement: to make fun rad pop music covered in sugar and spice. Directed by Jancarlo Beck (who also shot the band’s latest press pictures), the video showcases band members Liz Nistico and Louie Diller alongside cute young women stuffing their faces with sweets –that is when they are not dancing in front of a projected erotica film:
Free Bike Valet wanted to know more about the making of the music video, so we interviewed Beck:
How did you come to work on this music video with HOLYCHILD?
“Liz showed me the treatment she was working on before it was even done and I was in.”
Did the song’s lyrics influence the treatment?
“Yeah overall everything HOLYCHILD does is part of a bigger picture. The treatment for the video was definitely just another way to tell the same story.”
Where was it shot?
“It was shot at Liz and Louie’s crib.”
How did you acquire so many sweets?
“My girlfriend Sasha was the art director so you can thank her for the eye candy. Also as a side note, on the left side of the table there is a hamburger cake. It was so rad looking no one wanted to eat it. It was left there untouched for almost the entire shoot until Liz finally smashed it in Louie’s face.”
Where did you find the vintage erotica film footage?
“We would have to kill you if we told you…”
Did you choreograph all the dances moves as well?
“No (laughs), Liz came up with the choreography. My job was to make sure it looked good on camera.”
