“Tether” Music Video by Sleep State (Premiere)

SLEEP STATE PRESS 2Sleep State is a new Silver Lake-based indie rock act fronted by the very talented Troy Ritchie. Their forthcoming self-titled debut EP was sporadically recorded late at night in a small space behind a karate studio. The result is five tracks of unabashed, optimistic groove pop. And as long as they can make you dance or smile, we think they’ll feel triumphant. Here’s their second single “Tether.”

“Forget all that you knew.”

And here’s the single’s music video which is split between the band hitting up their favorite local spots in Silver Lake (where they snagged a table at Hyperion Public) and performing in an old high rise building off Skid Row:

Sleep State continues their July residency at The Silverlake Lounge tonight (July 20th) and will perform the Wednesday night residency at Los Globos in September.

“Queen Of France” by Royal

17 (1)When Imad-Roy El-Amine isn’t spinning as one half of SoySauce, he’s making “conscious pop” as Royal. The Silver Lake denizen recently leaked his new single, “Queen Of France,” as a follow-up to his debut EP Cycles. The track opens with minimal synth notes, sharp percussion effects, and a crooning vox until the sporadic, beatcentric indie pop production pounds it all into a high BPM outro. Absolutely serene-cum-vigor.

“We’re staring at the same old stars.”

Royal will perform on August 1st at Hard Summer Music Festival.

“Raw Emotion” by Alanna Clarke

AC 2 - Tamarind Free JonesAlanna Clarke leaked another single, “Raw Emotion,” off her forthcoming debut release. Inspired by heartache and true to its title, the pop track opens with guitar strums and Clarke’s crisp, breathy voice but soon erupts with a booming back beat and swelling production. But cutting through it all is a powerful and passionate plea…

“My heart is still screaming for you.”

“Take You Away” by Golden Coast

“Every Echo” by Mercies

10991614_841046289276627_7931640697998853416_oOriginally founded in a New England tobacco barn by songwriters Josh Rheault and Sammy Dent, Mercies eventually released an album, became a trio, and moved to Silver Lake. They still affectionately refer to their sound as “forest pop” but the West Coast transition may be more affluential than they discern. Recently released via Randm Records, their sophomore LP, Blue Against Green, was recorded at Lost Ark Studio by producer Mike Butler and is a tranquil collection of naturally arresting tracks which entice then envelope like a salted seabreeze. Here’s the album’s opening song “Every Echo”:

Mercies‘ album release show is tomorrow (April 3rd) at The Satellite.

“Linger” by Alanna Clarke

nZtLeTt_Htdrc30UwEWTR0FIENGdP3kE4nC2aqWzouYIndie popstress Alanna Clarke returns by leaking another track, “Linger,” soaked by her soulful vox. But unlike her debut single “Heartstrings,” this song carries a darker tone via droning synths and deep digi-beats which manifest beneath Clarke’s epic soars.

“And now I know, that you keep on lingering.”

“Futurist” by Golden Coast

Golden Coast-805x450Silver Lake duo Golden Coast leaks another track, “Futurist,” off their debut release. The song conjures the vibe of SoCal’s perpetual summer by leading with reggae rhythms but the groove soon soars into indie pop blasts of poly-synths lead by a sharp falsetto:

“Everybody knows I’m a futurist.”

Golden Coast will perform at The Echo on Thursday, January 15th for Popshop West.
